| Wow I haven't gotten this many comments on a post in maybe.. a year? I
really appreciate all the input, so I figured I should expand a little
more on what I'm doing to show my commitment, so you guys don't think
I'm just all talk-- I do take this whole "not being happy" thing very
seriouslly, so seriouslly I spend most of my work day thinking/talking
about it.. haha.
1. Grad program-- I've contacted a professor from this program that I'm
really interested in and called up a couple other people to figure out
how I should apply. I'm going to hopefully work with the
professor on a research plan before I apply next Feb/March. Ted
is also looking into applying for a Fullbright to go to Taiwan :)
2. Peace Corps-- For now, the plan is that Peace Corps would only be on
the agenda if we aren't going to Taiwan. Ted's going to an
information session tomorrow, which I have to miss because I'll be at
FDA.
3. JET-- If by next fall I still haven't gotten into anything, I'll apply to go to Japan in 2008.
4. The soon-to-be company-- Ted's developing a language
exchange/tutoring web learning tool. His thought is to start a
company in the next couple of months, and I'll probably help him on the
side. I bought a book today to learn more about becoming
incorporated.. so really, I'm doing something ;p
But in response to Lindsay's food for thought, I do always tend to like
the food that's on someone else's table. So I'm not quite sure if
I'll love all of the above options (I ask myself that very question all
the time), but I kind of see the parallel between them all (language,
education, foreign country, etc.).. so I figured a part of my passion
has led me to these choices. And I get so excited when I think about
them--sometimes so excited I can barely work, like today
And Claire, I did NOT write it at 7am... I wrote it at work but facebook messed up.. haha.
Oh and, if you've read this all, I love you, I really do.

| Alright, well, perhaps the title is a little dramatic for
how I actually feel. But it takes me back to the conversation that I have with
my friends EVERY time we talk.
"So how's work?"
Frankly and bluntly, I don't like it.
Perhaps you find me picky, because I work for one of the best IT
consulting firms, because I get paid more than enough to get by, because I have
health insurance. But it's stability
undesire--what's the glamour in working on something you don't really care
about?
So in short, I'm in search of "something else", and that
something else might be any of the following:
1. Grad program in Taiwan for teaching Chinese as a
second language
2. Peace Corps
3. JET
4. Working for Ted's soon-to-be company for language
exchange & the container store (puahaha)
But first I have to finish writing this thing I don't really
care about ;p | | |
| So I decided my Belize trip is worth a xanga entry, especially because
we got robbed. Yes, being held up at gunpoint type of robbery.
My friends and I went on a caving tour, and on the way back our van was
stopped by a group of armed men. They went through the van and
took all the valuables, including my friend's and my cameras.. this
lady's $7000 wedding ring, cash, watches.. etc etc. So robbery really
DOES happen ouside of TV, I learned. They ended up taking down 4
tourist vans, and all the while they wouldn't let us leave to keep us
from going to the police. The longest 2 hours in my life,
probably.
Luckily I followed Nirav's clever move and took out my SD card, so I still have pictures to entertain.

The hammocks in front of our little hotel on the beach. We were at a quiet part of the beach, so chill.

Marie Sharp hot sauce, proud product of Belize. Nirav and Claire were in heaven.

Not your normal tourist destination. Ever been on an island where
you're the only people there? pretty awesome. Especially when you're
there for fresh seafood.

Louis, our captain from the previous day, took us out on his friend Bert's boat..

Caught food right out of the ocean..

Even let me touch the inside of a conch

And cooked it up for us. Here's the secret recipe: secret spice,
honey BBQ sauce, butter. The secret spice came in a bag that said
"turkey" on it.
Will return.. done for now.
